Lives in Paris

In Giuseppe Gabellone’s work, the relation between two- and three-dimensionality highlights the importance of time and memory. The artist deals with themes such as the permanence and contingency of images, as demonstrated in his two bas-reliefs titled Falsa Finestra (Fake Window, 2020), in which opacity leads to a reflection on the a-temporality of the artist’s practice. On the surface of his works, a syncretism takes place connecting different temporal planes, like in a sedimentary rock or in an imaginary fossil of future archeologies.

The windows in the exhibition are fake because they prevent an opening towards a hypothetical “outside”, even though the apparently darkened vision passes through the dense matter and reveals its underlying color. Hinting to a transparency, color swallows within itself all the images, letting new ones emerge from the magma.
