Lives in Rome
Giulia Crispiani creates an erotic-subversive avant-garde to eradicate the patriarchal rationales inherent to language. Her work incorporates the counter-generative power of feminist movements and sets up the creation of a desired community that becomes an active part of her research.
Incontri in luoghi straordinari (Meetings at Remarkable Places, 2020) took shape during the sanitary emergency due to Covid19 in response to sociaI distancing and the impossibiIity of inhabiting the public space. Crispiani mailed the same letter to sixty recipients and used the answers she received as a starting point for a poetic programmatic manifesto. Excerpts of the same letters are embroidered on fabric, conveying a gestural and intimate dimension. The invitation letter is also printed on pizza boxes, three thousand of which will be distributed to pizzerias in Rome and used for delivery services, one of the few systems stilI in place during lock down. The artist works as a catalyst for a collective work that infiltrates itself within the institutional space, but stems from and proIiferates outside of it.
