Biography
Nanda Vigo
Milan 1936-2020
The relationship between light and space is central to Nanda Vigo’s research, which combines the immaterial nature of reflections with geometric shapes in order to open up new dimensions of perception. Artist, architect, and designer, Vigo constructs environments that are configured as an ‘elsewhere’ suspended in time, in which gates serve as passages leading towards that relative space-time that she envisions.
The installation presented on the occasion of the 2020 Art Quadriennale is composed of works combining mirrors and neon lights that break down reality and immerse the viewer in a new perceptive condition. Inspired by a journey conducted through the places that represent the cradle of the most ancient civilizations, Exoteric Gate (1976) transforms essential and multi-cultural shapes – the square, the triangle – into seeds of more complex syntagms, composing a universal and cosmic alphabet.
